The Namibian dollar replaced the South African rand, which had been the country's currency while it was under South African rule as South-West Africa 1920-1990. The Ugandan shilling is the official currency of Uganda. It is subdivided into 100 cents but no subdivisions have been issued since 1987. The Ugandan shilling is now a stable currency and predominates in most financial transactions in Uganda. The United States dollar is widely accepted as well as the pound sterling and the euro.
